Science and Math
Initiatives at Los Alamos
This site is a clearinghouse of resources, funding, and curriculum for math
and science teachers. It contains links to Web66 and other sites that would
be of interest to K-12 teachers.
The Why Files
This site is a product of the National Institute for Science Education at
the University of Wisconsin and is designed to illuminate the science, math
and technolgy that lurk behind the headline news. It is updated bi-weekly
and past "issues" remain available.
Science and the Environment
This is another good site for the connections between current science in
the news and the classroom. A section "How to Use Voyage News Summaries
in Your Classroom" is available. Editors have reviewed over 500 magazines,
journals, and newspapers for the summaries of articles included. All stories
are available for photocopying and distributing in the classroom.
inQuiry Almanack
inQuiry Almanack is part of the Franklin Institute Science Museum's Web
site. The January issue includes many ideas for science fair projects, tips,
ideas, sample projects, and a few online science fairs. The Almanack is
archived back to March 1995 so you can find many more science resources.
Weather information from Purdue
Home page loads a current composite weather map with sat, radar, and fronts,
High and lows. Probably the easiest weather site to use.

Real Time Satellite Data
From the U. of Wisconsin. Clouds, IR (infrared-heat data), water vapor,
global shots. Updated every 30 min. takes a little while to load page, but
gives the images in 3 x 3 inch squares. Includes forcast map that could
be compared to the actual map on the next day.

Weather Page Education Edition
Page is slow to load, but contains mainly good links to other data. Use
this to create your own hot list and then go directly to those web pages.

GLOBE Project
The GLOBE - Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment-
is an onging project in which students from the United States and other
nations make measurements and obserevations about the environment. The data
is then entered into a large data base. The results may be obtained in a
graphical or visual format. Data included is air temperature, precipitation,
cloud cover, water temperature, pH soil moisture, plant species and land
cover.

Center for Earth and Planetary
Studies
At the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution, this
site contains a collection of research and images of earth and the planets,
with an especially useful collection of photos taken from the space shuttle.
Periodic Table
of the Elements
The Periodic Table of the Elements is an interactive chemistry resource
that allows you to click on an element to find various properties of the
element.

U.S. Geological Survey
This site provides maps, water resources information, surveys, and reports
full of ideas and facts for earth science and geography projects. Check
out Geology for information on earthquakes and volcanos.
There are several web directories that may be used by typing in a few
well choosen search words. Extensive lists of web sites are given which
you may then check out. This process gives quite a few web sites which may
have only a passing reference to what you might be interested in. For some
of them you can get just titles of web sites, or you may select to see summaries
of the sites. This may help to narrow down the more useful sites. In addition
